Join us for the U.S. premiere of The Raptureby Moira Finucane (Melbourne, Australia).  One of the world’s greatest performance chameleons, Finucane creates a transcendent emporium of Gothic dreams, birds of prey, soaring wings, rock’n’roll angels, apocalyptic fairy tales, soul-searing music and physical madness in this new work.  Hailed as ‘volcanic’ ‘exquisite’ ‘mesmerizing’ by audiences & critics across 5 continents, this work comes from the creator of the world’s most awarded Provocative Variety. The Rapture is art vs. extinction.

Inez Barlatier in Concert (Miami, USA), a Miami-grown songstress, will share original music from her new solo project , “Claim Your Fame”.  Originally a founding member of Kazoots, and long-time member of Jan Sebon & Kazak International, Barlatier has performed extensively as a singer-songwriter, folkloric dancer, actress & hand drum percussionist.  She has defined a powerful Roots sound that reflects her Haitian heritage and infuses African, Brazilian, and Caribbean influences in a strong contemporary flow, giving voice to a wholly unique representation of tropical folk.  Special guest appearance by artist Jan Sebon.

Barlatier’s concert is part of FUNDarte’s From the Barrio to the Mainstage commissioning project funded by the Knight Foundations Miami Arts Challenge.

In partnership with Siren Arts, Climakaze is sponsoring two interactive Eco-theater Labs by Superhero Clubhouse, along with local scientists, artists and climate-concerned citizens. Climakaze Miami sees theater as an essential tool for evolving our consciousness in the face of global environmental crises.  The labs happen in a generative atmosphere that engages the hopeful imagination and places the body in action.  Artists are welcome, but you don’t have to be an artist to participate!  All labs are free of charge.

This year, we are highlighting gorgeous, wild and profound female voices from Haiti and Australia in a unique event that, and offers live performances and community engagement through eco-arts labs that allow participants to experience theater making through a climate lens.

2017 promises to be the hottest year on record, and FUNDarte believes culture’s role in progressive climate action is inevitable, and can be networked more deeply to expand partnerships and engage citizenry in meaningful ways.To address this issue, we founded Climakaze Miami to honor artists and thinkers making work at the intersection of culture and climate.  Our performances and activities surprise, inspire and engage!
