ZunZún Children’s Fest V Anniversary at Miami-Dade County Auditorium on Oct. 5th, 2019

FUNDarte presented the 5th edition of the International Festival of The Arts for Youth and Children, ZunZún Children’s Fest, featuring Musicall that brought us a lively Miami children’s orchestra, conducted by Jose Antonio Bornot; and Rita Rosa Ruesga, accompanied by a band of local musicians, who performed the most popular and lasting Latin American songs.

 

MENDOZA by Los Colochos Teatro on Oct 11, 2018 at On.Stage Black.Box Theater at Miami-Dade County Auditorium

FUNDarte in collaboration with The Miami-Dade County Auditorium, presented MENDOZA by Los Colochos Teatro, as part of NO BORDERS Series. This theatrical play is an adaptation by Antonio Zúñiga and Juan Carrillo of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth in a Mexican context. With an alternative dramaturgy inspired by authors such as Juan Rulfo, and Elena Garro; a simple stage design refers to a “cantina” (saloon) that does not correspond to any particular time or place; six actors and three actresses remain all the time on stage with the audience very closely located to all four fronts. Directed by Juan Carrillo, the play is based on the economy of technical resources and therefore it is mainly supported by the acting and incredibly creative solutions.

As part of our FLAMENCOS series FUNDarte presented Reditum, dancing flamenco”, by Jose Barrios – Casa Patas Flamenco Foundation & Conservatory. Barrios premiered “Reditum, dancing flamenco” in 2017 at the prestigious Festival of Jerez and it was described by the critics as elegant and effortless while demonstrating a versatility and passion that demands attention from the audience.

 

Macho Man XXI, by Tania Pérez-Salas Dance Company (Mexico) onstage at Miami Dade County Auditorium on May 4th, 2019
FUNDarte in Collaboration with Miami Dade County Auditorium, presented Macho Man XXI. With a sense of humor and intense physical imagery, this dance piece tackles the effects of gender violence taking place in the chaotic, surreal and exotic culture of Mexico. In riveting and craftily gender-coded dance, the powerful and daring work pulls up fear by its roots, revealing the submissive and perverted state of this social legacy, ever apparent in the media, contemporary beauty standards and their underlying violence.

 

Entre 2 Aguas/Between 2 Waters” at the On.Stage Black.Box Theater at Miami-Dade County Auditorium on September 7, 2018.

FUNDarte and La Saraghina de Stalker, in collaboration with The Miami-Dade County Auditorium, presented the world premiere of “Entre 2 Aguas/Between 2 Waters” at the On.Stage Black.Box Theater at Miami Dade County Auditorium. “Entre 2 Aguas” is a theater piece co-produced by FUNDarte (Miami, USA) and La Saraghina de Stalker (Extremadura, Spain), with artists from both countries. Written by playwright Manuel De, and directed by Carlos Caballero (Miami), the play will be performed by actors Mabel Roch and Eugenia Sancho, both based in Miami. It is supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge, which funds the best ideas for the arts in Miami.

 


Las Áñez in Miami onstage | Climakaze Miami, at On.Stage Black Box Theater at Miami Dade County Auditorium on April 21st, 2018
Produced by FUNDarte in collaboration with the Miami Dade County Auditorium and Siren arts, Climakaze Miami presented Las Áñez in concert. This duet combine folklore and contemporary music has captivated and beguiled audiences across South America and Europe. On stage, these twin sisters bewitch listeners with their resonant medium, creating a hypnotic sound ritual. Unique percussion accompanies the natural and versatile style of this minimalist vocal duet from Colombia with traditional instruments, keyboard, and a loop station.

The Garifuna Collective in Miami onstage | No Borders series, Miami-Dade County Auditorium on Jan. 27th & Jan, 2018

As part of our No Borders series showcasing artists from around the world, FUNDarte presented The Garifuna Collective featuring Umalali, providing a rare opportunity to experience Garifuna music and culture in Miami. Discover the musical heritage of the Garifuna, a culture that defies national borders and spans the Caribbean coast of Central America, with this exhilarating ensemble of female vocalists performing a contemporary tribute to the traditional Garifuna music, featuring an array of fiery Caribbean rhythms.

Flamenco Rave. This event was part of the global performing arts series NO BORDERS presented by FUNDarte Inc. This series focuses on innovative contemporary works from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain, celebrating Miami’s diverse multiethnic culture. This event was presented in partnership with Miami-Dade County Auditorium, Festival Flamenco, and Flamenco Eñe, a program of Foundation SGAE.

LOS ÁNGELES

A sensational new duo in contemporary flamenco, Rosalía & Raül Refree transverse the borders of modernity and tradition, presenting flamenco in its raw, emotional state. Rising star Rosalía is renowned for her versatile and breathtaking singing; she has worked with Chicuelo, Rocío Márquez and Madrid rapper C. Tangana, and was recently nominated for a Latin Grammy in the “Best New Artist” category. Guitarist Raül Refree, acclaimed for his instrumental experimentation, incorporates his love of flamenco into his own personal style. Their new CD, Los Ángeles, is a revelation in Spanish music.

 

Daymé Arocena onstage | Global Cuba Fest at North Beach Bandshell, Miami Beach on March 30th, 2019.

FUNDarte, Miami Light Project and The Rhythm Foundation presented Global Cuba Fest 2019 featuring Daymé Arocena in concert. Arocena effortlessly blends traditional Santeria chant, jazz stylings, contemporary R&B influences, and Afro-Cuban rhythmic complexity for audiences worldwide. Her passion for the musical traditions of her homeland is boundless – “reigniting the Cuban soundtrack wherever she plays” (NPR). At every performance, Daymé coaxes her audiences into lively call-and-response chants with an irrepressible smile on her face, enamoring the whole audience in her charm. “Scat-singing over her trio’s swaying rhumbas and cha-cha-chas,” (DownBeat), Daymé’s impact upon the history of Cuban music is undeniable.

 

Objects In The Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear by Abel Berenguer & Sandra Ramy at Miami-Dade County Auditorium on June 28th, 2019

FUNDarte in Collaboration with Miami Dade County Auditorium, presented Objects In The Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear. This Dance piece explores the residence of the body itself, and by extension, the everyday entity. It is the search for an image, sometimes lacking in significance, in that micro universe that we inhabit, be it a city or country. It is the reality that gives us back the reflection of our own image. Objects in the Mirror… is the nearness of a distance. Looking for words to define a city, an immigrant gay artist explores his new life in Miami through a newly commissioned dance choreography.

I Am Made In Mexico by Astrid Hadad (Mexico) on June 1st, 2019 at The Colony Theater, Miami Beach.

FUNDarte presented I Am Made In Mexico. Astrid Hadad is a legendary Mexican cabaret performer, historian, social critic and activist. This cultural icon has inherited a unique Mexican female surrealism and created her own that pulses with campy humor and irony. She confronts politics, Mexican hypocrisy, machismo, and corruption in cabaret style productions filled with music combining ranchera, bolero, rumba and rock, and featuring extravagant costumes, which have become a hallmark of her performances.

FUNDarte in Collaboration with Miami Dade County Auditorium, presented RAIZ DE 4 by Rafael Peral and Marisa Adame, Casa Patas Flamenco Foundation & Conservatory.

Unrivaled flamenco masters Casa Patas return to Miami Dade County Auditorium with their newest show, RAIZ DE 4, created by and featuring Rafael Peral and Marisa Adame.

RAIZ DE 4 honors the art of Flamenco by delving into its most primitive roots, evoking the convergence of cultures and the folklore of Spain.

 

Brenda Navarrete & Yelsy Heredia onstage | Global Cuba Fest at North Beach Bandshell, Miami Beach. March 7th, 2020.

FUNDarte, Miami Light Project and The Rhythm Foundation presented Global Cuba Fest 2020 featuring Yelsy Heredia and Brenda Navarrete in Concert, on March 7th at North Beach Bandshell.

Brenda Navarrete is one of Cuba’s most celebrated rising stars, fusing ancestral Afro-Cuban heritage with contemporary jazz influences. A singer and percussionist, Navarrete plays the batá, a set of three double-headed drums that are traditionally used in Afro-Cuban religious ceremonies.

The Cuban musician Yelsy Heredia, living and working in Madrid since the late ’90s, toured with Cigala for 13 years. Heredia’s 2019 release of changüí tunes, Lo Nuestro, was nominated for a Latin Grammy. He brought his music to the Bandshell for this special concert, accompanied by a band of other eight top Cuban musicians.

Cimafunk onstage | Global Cuba Fest at North Beach Bandshell, Miami Beach. March 30th at 6:00 p.m., 2019.

FUNDarte, Miami Light Project and The Rhythm Foundation present Global Cuba Fest 2019 featuring CIMAFUNK in concert

Cimafunk is a singer, a composer and a producer and one of the most singular emerging artists of Cuba’s alternative music. His music is a fusion of funk and Afrocuban music. His lyrics come directly from the Cuban streets and his music is designed to get you dancing!

FUNDarte in collaboration with The Miami Dade County Auditorium presented Flamenco Rave II, the explosive movement and sound of 15 contemporary flamenco musicians that are currently redefining the genre in this extended performance featuring the most challenging and innovative experiments in freshly updated flamenco expression from the Iberian Peninsula.

Diego Guerrero, provocateur of exchanges, musical agitator, has always transcended Flamenco in his music. Diego is not only a singer, but also a prolific musical producer, arranger, composer and guitarist, and one of the top references in the world when it comes to the fusion of Flamenco with other genres.
