About the show

 

Rayuela, meaning ‘hopscotch’ in Spanish is the newest creation of versatile artist, Marco Flores. Flores celebrates the first 20 years of his career in this piece that is a metaphor for his life where he is accompanied by renowned musicians: cantaor David Lagos and guitarist Alfredo Lagos.

 

About the artist

 

Marco Flores is a flamenco dancer and choreographer, recipient of the Premio Nacional de Flamenco, and the Premio Max, among other accolades. Recently, he has been honored with the Premio Godot 2024 for Best Male Dancer and the Specialized Critics’ Award 2025 at the Festival de Jerez. A free-style performer with a contemporary discourse in constant evolution, Flores stands out for his refined technique, musicality, and ability to connect with traditional flamenco while embracing influences from other dance disciplines, creating bold and dignified choreographies. His work explores themes such as femininity, intergenerational dialogue, queer identity, and the artist’s intangible search. After co-producing shows with Manuel Liñán, Olga Pericet, and Daniel Doña, he founded his company, Cía. Marco Flores, in 2010, premiering DeFlamencas at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba and winning the Crítica Especializada del Festival de Jerez award in 2012. Since then, he has produced more than twelve shows featuring prominent artists and directors like Carmela Greco, Olga Pericet, Jesús Méndez, Francisco López, and Juan Carlos Lérida. His recent productions include Rayuela (2020), Sota, Caballo y Reina (2021), Vengo Jondo (2022), and Tierra Virgen (2024). Flores has also worked as a choreographer for the Ballet Nacional de España and continues to enrich flamenco through a distinctive artistic voice marked by curiosity, exploration, and fearless creativity.

Out In The Tropics this year redefined as Out (Loud) in the Tropics is a yearly international performing arts series featuring daring and innovative artists that address issues of Gender Politics, Sexuality, and freedom of expression.

 

This performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series, a program that consists of off-site performances at alternative venues with our community partners, ensuring that the magic of the performing arts continues to captivate audiences while MDCA is temporarily closed for renovations.
